From 1842 until 1883 companies
needing protection against copying of their products were required to place
a Diamond Registration mark on the article, to show that the design had
been registered. Therefore any Primrose League item bearing this mark could
only have been registered in November/December 1883 (due to the founding
date of the 'League'), but could have continued to have been used, for years
to come. Keeping in mind that the Primrose League was not founded until 17th November 1883, then the speed of design, offering for approval to the Ruling Council of the Primrose League, then submitting the design to the Patent Office for registration of the badge bearing the Diamond Mark, illustrated left (Web Site Ref: Jewel No. 20), is almost unbelievable, compared to today's standards. |
